Luftgekühlt 5 | An Air-cooled Affair

What started as a relatively small gathering of air-cooled Porsche enthusiasts five years ago has grown into one of the best overall car events that I've attended recently. That is assuming you're a fan of Porsches of course!

The brain child of Patrick Long and Howie Idelson, Luftgekühlt 5 sets the stage to provide the highest quality examples of air-cooled Porsches from the past in a unique and intriguing environment. This year, Ganahl Lumber Company opened their lot to the hundreds of 911s, 356s, 914s, and more that poured between the aisles of stacked 2x4s and building materials galore to take part in the festivities.

The selection of cars was incredible, the location was stunning, but what was most impressive from the event was how intimate everything felt still. Each person was beaming with energy as they roamed the lumberyard, reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones over shared passions and recounting stories about their Porsche fanaticism. While the venue was undoubtedly full of people, it was still possible to slip away and find spots of solace with an air-cooled Porsche of your choosing.

Luft 5 is an event you simply need to experience. Words don't do it justice, and the pictures can only give you an idea of the atmosphere that was. In short, if you are even remotely interested in Porsches and specifically air-cooled, horizontally-opposed kinds, put Luftgekühlt on your short list for next year. You won't regret it.

Helpful hint: Buy tickets the day they're released. This year's event sold out in a matter of hours from the time tickets were announced! And yes, it's really that good!
